Course Description

  • Further develop your communication skills to an intermediate level

  • Learn intermediate practical counselling skills through individual study, group work, and excercises in the classroom

  • Document your development by means of a learning journal and contemplate your progression from Level 1 to enhance your self-awareness

  • Continue your path in developing your person-centered skills and an introduction to the core conditions (genuiness, empathy, and being non-judgemental)

  • Introduce you to counselling theory and how this relates to the application of counselling skills

  • Increase your abilities for creating rapport, active listening skills, paraphrasing, emotional reflection, summarising, beginnings & endings, non-verbal behaviours, and safely conducting yourself with confidence and intentionality

  • Introduce you to goal setting & the process models (how to move a client forward)

  • Study the importance of ethics, morals & diversity

Requirements for entry

  • Level 1 certificate in Counselling Skills

  • You need to be 18 years of age or older

Assessment criteria

  • As this course requires demonstrations of interpersonal skills, you are expected to attend all sessions. I can provide flexibility for non-attendance by offering an alternative session to ‘keep up’ with the rest of the class to maintain your working knowledge in order to reach a successful outcome

  • You will be expected to keep a personal journal of your learning throughout the course (consisting of 500 to 750 words)

  • Write a simple essay from a selection of topics (500 - 750 words)
