Course Description
Further develop your communication skills to an intermediate level
Learn intermediate practical counselling skills through individual study, group work, and excercises in the classroom
Document your development by means of a learning journal and contemplate your progression from Level 1 to enhance your self-awareness
Continue your path in developing your person-centered skills and an introduction to the core conditions (genuiness, empathy, and being non-judgemental)
Introduce you to counselling theory and how this relates to the application of counselling skills
Increase your abilities for creating rapport, active listening skills, paraphrasing, emotional reflection, summarising, beginnings & endings, non-verbal behaviours, and safely conducting yourself with confidence and intentionality
Introduce you to goal setting & the process models (how to move a client forward)
Study the importance of ethics, morals & diversity
Requirements for entry
Level 1 certificate in Counselling Skills
You need to be 18 years of age or older
Assessment criteria
As this course requires demonstrations of interpersonal skills, you are expected to attend all sessions. I can provide flexibility for non-attendance by offering an alternative session to ‘keep up’ with the rest of the class to maintain your working knowledge in order to reach a successful outcome
You will be expected to keep a personal journal of your learning throughout the course (consisting of 500 to 750 words)
Write a simple essay from a selection of topics (500 - 750 words)
