Course Description

  • Hone & develop your communication skills

  • Learn practical counselling skills through individual study, group work, classroom excercises, and an introduction to triad work

  • Document your development so you can reflect upon your personal development and your ability to enhace your self-awareness by recognising your personal strengths and weaknesses

  • Familiarize you to the person-centered ways of working

  • Within this learning environment, you will attain the very basics of effective communication skills, for example: creating rapport, active listening skills, paraphrasing, emotional reflection, summarising, beginnings & endings, appreciation of the importance of non-verbal behaviours, and how to safely conduct yourself with confidence and intentionality

Requirements for entry

  • There are no specific requirements to enroll in this course other than being over 18 years of age

Assessment criteria

  • As this course requires demonstrations of interpersonal skills, you are expected to attend all sessions. I can provide flexibility for non-attendance by offering an alternative session to ‘keep up’ with the rest of the class to maintain your working knowledge in order to reach a successful outcome

  • You will be expected to keep a personal journal of your learning throughout the course (consisting of 500 to 750 words)

  • Write a simple essay from a selection of topics (500 - 750 words)
